The Sands hotel and Casino were a historical hotel and casino in the Las Vegas Strip in the United States, which opened in 1952 and operated until 1996. Designed by Wayne McAllister the architect of the legendary Golden Gate Hotel and Casino in San Francisco, the original Sands was built by the well known developer Sam Wyly. Renamed as the Riviera after opening the second time and named after the hotel’s original clientele, the Sands has since been popular among both travelers and locals alike.
Designed by McAllister, the original Sands Hotel is an architectural gem on the Las Vegas strip, having a famous billboard featuring a “live” giraffe. A favorite among tourists and locals alike, the Riviera offers the ultimate in luxury and comfort, complete with plush suites, gourmet cuisine, and a private pool and spa. Located on The Venetian resort area, the hotel at The Sands Riviera is designed around its unique location. The hotel itself is nestled between the world’s largest and most famous theme parks: the Universal Studios in Orlando and the Islands of Adventure in Universal City in Florida. Not far from these theme parks are the city’s major attractions: the Bellagio, the Venetian and the MGM Grand. The hotel is located on the world-renowned Las Vegas strip, with its signature, curved roof and massive, black and white columns and flagstone floor. The casino floor of the hotel is made of black and white tile, with red carpeting used to provide the ultimate casino experience. Awnings and umbrellas are placed around the pool side for guests to enjoy the view and comfort while swimming, while the main casino floor is decorated in blue and white tile.
The casinos are located below the casino floor, in the hotel’s interior, and the casino rooms are on either side of the pool. Guests will find a high-class casino experience at the tables at the casino tables, and a unique gaming experience in the casinos located throughout the lobby. The casinos themselves consist of five gaming tables, three at each table, four game tables that feature five games each, two gaming tables that only feature two games each and one casino game table that offers a combination of two games.
